Vlado Perlemuter, born in Poland in 1904, was one of the great pianists of the twentieth century. In his teens he studied with Alfred Cortot at the Paris Conservatoire and spent his twenties being coached in the complete piano works of Maurice Ravel by the composer himself. Perlemuter once said that he vividly remembered his lessons with Cortot on Schumann's Kreisleriana, “which he taught and demonstrated in such a way that all the details have remained to this day a part of my thinking.” These recordings date from 1955, when Perlemuter was in the prime of his career, and, never having been released on CD, have not been commercially available for over thirty years.
