Tom Lehrer hoped that 'if, after hearing my songs, just one human being is inspired to say something nasty to a friend, or perhaps to strike a loved one, it will all have been worth the while.' Having received his degree in mathematics at 18, Lehrer taught at Harvard but paid to record his first album and sold out. RCA expressed an interest but read the lyrics, and considered Lehrer too hot to handle!
